Where to Have Dinner in Geelong Tonight: Date Night, Family and Group Ideas

Geelong has more good restaurants than ever, which makes the nightly question harder: where should we go for dinner in Geelong tonight? Here are our suggestions depending on who's coming, and what Eastern Spice on the waterfront does well for each.

Date night dinner in Geelong

Book a window table about an hour before sunset and watch the light go over Corio Bay. Share a couple of starters, like Paneer Tikka ($17) or Spicy Lamb Chops ($19), then a curry each with garlic naan. We're BYO wine at $5 a person, so bring the bottle you've been saving. Walk the Eastern Beach promenade afterwards.

Family dinner in Geelong

Indian food is made for sharing, and there's something for every age: mild Punjabi Butter Chicken ($24) for kids, Lamb Rogan Josh ($25) for the adults, and vegan and gluten-free dishes clearly marked. Our House Black Daal ($22), slow-cooked for 24 hours, is a crowd-pleaser at any age.

Dinner for a group or a celebration

The Chef's Table Banquet ($69 a person, minimum four guests, whole table) takes the ordering out of it: samosa, chicken tikka, papadum, butter chicken, daal, palak paneer, rice, naan and gulab jamun, with a veg and vegan option. Call (03) 5221 9544 for larger tables and birthdays.

A quieter Monday dinner

Many Geelong restaurants are closed on Mondays; we're open. Our Monday Special Thali ($28) gives you a selection of curries on one plate, with veg, vegan and non-veg versions.
